New MSS Faculty! Introducing John Enriquez and Nicole Velazco

Congrats to our new MotionScope Faculty members!
Pictured above is John Enriquez.  John has primarily assisted JJ Casas in his photoshoots and will soon be photographing his own photoshoots in the future.  He has definitely gained knowledge in lighting and MSS is confident and proud to have him on board.

Also graduated from an MSS Intern is Nicole Velazco! Nicole has also assisted JJ Casas in the photoshoots and has become the go-to Behind The Scenes [BTS] photography and even videographer.  Her ability to document the photoshoot as it unfolds has become vital in providing great pictures to accompany blog posts.

Thank you again for all your hard work over the summer.  There for sure will be plenty of more to come in the future!

Photoshoot: “Confused Reality” with Jean Marc

    Post for John Enriquez

I’ve had the pleasure of working with MotionScope Studies ever since my summer return to Daly City in June 2010. I had gone to high school with MotionScope’s principle videographer, Ryan Brown, who referred me to the principle photographer JJ Casas (see them on the faculty page.) Throughout June to August I followed JJ to many of his shoots as his assistant, learning his tricks of the trade and definitely growing as a photographer.
Mid-August I took JJ up on his offer to assist me at one of my shoots. I contacted my cousin and singer/songwriter Jean Marc Enriquez to set up a photoshoot for portraits for his website. I initially suggested a Batman-themed shoot, but it didn’t fly. Instead, I listened to his re-recorded original “Is It Love” and found inspiration for a theme of a confused reality. It would require a bed and room furnishings on a beach. I pitched the idea to Jean Marc, and we were off.
The shoot took place on August 19, 2010 at Rockaway Beach, Pacifica, California. Here’s a collection of video clips and pictures of the set and the actual shoot, taken by Nicole Velazco, a fellow MotionScope understudy:

I’m quite proud of having produced this shoot, but none of it would have been possible without the help of everybody on the shoot. I will fly back to UC Riverside in late September, but I hope shoot more down in Southern California, and even more in the next summer.

E-Session: Louie and Bern (08/22/10) Behind the Scenes!

All photos taken by Nicole Velazco

Pictured left to right: Nicole (Assistant), Francis (Video), Ryan (Video), Bern and Louie, myself (Photographer), and cousin of Bern, Ian.

I’ll first start off this post with a group picture of those present on this engagement session with my grammar school friend Bernadette and her soon to be hubby Louie. This was taken on School of Motion‘s glidetrack in which my assistant, Nicole, placed her Canon G10 on top of while we post in back of Coit Tower in San Francisco.

Here’s Ryan and I waiting for Bern and Louie to arrive as we also make some final adjustments to our equipment.

During this shoot, we definitely hit two birds with one stone as in between locations, Ryan would interview the couple and answer a few questions about who they are and how they meet for example. Professional audio and video were taken so you can imagine how this scene looked like in such a public [and beautiful] spot.

While it may look like this as I’m photographing them…

It looked like this from afar haha

Francis and I battling it out to get “the shot.”

Next spot was taken at a place where they actually met: Jefferson High School in Daly City. Glad that the gates were open despite it being a Sunday.

We took a few shots around the school and was glad that they chose a spot that had special meaning to them both.

While I showed them how they can possibly pose, I joked about the poster that hung right next to me haha

This was one of the last shots I took before calling it wrap. Francis [pictured at left] was taking some BTS video that he and Ryan will incorporate in the couple’s love story video.

For old times sake, Bern and I took a photo and reminisced real quick on our years at Thomas R. Pollicita where I got to know Bern from 7th and 8th grade. Good times!

Thanks Bern and Louie! I’m so happy to take your photos and even more thrilled to be covering your big wedding day! =)

    Stay tuned for some images.

    Janra Undefined Photoshoot (Video)

Not too long after shooting DTA’s music video, I was able to work with Janra Undefined, consisting of Jayne Santayana and Arnelle Lozada (who is also in DTA’s “Leave Yo Numba”), providing them with a creative approach to a behind the scenes video. I was also able to meet make-up artists & hair stylists Step Heavvy, designer Kate Knuvelder of Kaatje Designs, and photographer Henry Navarro of LensExposure.

Originally, the photoshoot was supposed to be on the rooftop but found out we weren’t supposed to be up there and got kicked out by the landlord lol. It all worked out though because Kearney and Broadway was one block away and it definitely had more exciting shots than a rooftop would have, except that the rooftop had a view of the city skyline that was amazing. Fun experience for sure!

BTS: Photoshoot: “Confused Reality” by John Enriquez

This time around, I helped MotionScope photographer John Enriquez on his shoot for singer Jan Marc on Rockaway Beach in Pacifica, CA. I’ve been teaching John for this past summer in photography [as well as best business practices] and it’s good to see him grow within the past couple of months. He’s been helping me in a number of shoots so the least I can do is help him with his shoot.

Will post/link images from his shoot once they’re completed!

Photoshoot: “The Sound Lab” with IQ [07/17/10] EDITS

For San Jose-based rapper IQ, I developed a concept involving his childhood dream of becoming a scientist and his rapper name IQ. Together along with MotionScope Studies members, I was able to bring this concept into reality.

Here’s some links leading up to the final edits shown below:
